After fighting for his life for six days, Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, passed away on Thursday night at around 10:00pm.
Inqilab Moncho first announced his death in a Facebook post at approximately 9:40pm. The post stated, “In the struggle against Indian hegemony, Allah has accepted the great revolutionary Osman Hadi as a martyr.”
Osman Hadi was also an independent aspirant for the Dhaka-8 constituency. He was shot in the head on December 12 while traveling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw on Culvert Road in the capital’s Paltan area. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital as his condition continued to deteriorate.
On Saturday, Hadi was airlifted to Singapore for advanced medical treatment. Earlier that day, Inqilab Moncho stated that he was at a critical crossroads between life and death and confirmed that his family had given consent for surgery to be conducted in Singapore.
The platform warned of a sit-in protest at Shahbagh if the attackers are not arrested. In a statement, it said, “If Osman Hadi responds to the call of his Creator and joins the ranks of martyrs, the oppressed and freedom-seeking people of Bangladesh are requested to gather at Shahbagh to ensure sovereignty.” It further added that the country would be brought to a standstill until the demand is met.
The statement also warned that if the killer flees to India, the accused must be arrested and brought back at any cost through discussions with the Indian government.
